Discussion: 'Beyond Black History Month'

  • Bristol Old Vic King Street Bristol, England, BS1 United Kingdom (map)

Black History Month often exposes a limited perception of what narratives we imagine black artists can take ownership of; legacies of struggle and violence, slavery and suffering, and the perpetual focus on familiar figures such as Martin Luther King only tell part of our experience, and perhaps it is time to consider those individuals left in the margins of history as well as those closer to home.

What other stories would you like to hear?

What other stories would you like to tell?

What do you want to celebrate and who do we need to remember?

Join current Bristol City Poet Vanessa Kisuule (Sexy) for this informal salon-style conversation - come and speak your mind, air your grievances and air your hopes; share your ideas for what should happen now and what should happen next. All are welcome, but we especially want to hear from a wide range of voices from across the Black diaspora.
